Guarding the chickens

What would happen if there had been an Inspector General role created in Prince George's County?  If you have been watching the unfolding story about IRS' Exempt Organizations scrutiny and the Congressional hearings on the issue, you might find yourself mulling that.

We can find that report here.

One thing you'll notice is that this is not actually an independent audit.  Rather, this is an agency (in our case the Treasury Department) reviewing and assessing operations by a lower-level of its own structure.  The Internal Revenue Service is a component of the US Treasury, and the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division is a functional area within the IRS.

Are you watching the hearings?  Is anything particularly striking in the discussion and question and answers?
